An Inconvenient Truth

At the beginning of the narration, there is a short description of the beautiful environment. In order to let the audience have a better feeling, a lot of strong words are used to describe the river, leaves, birds and so on. There strong words make these things more vivid and we can even imagine the picturesque view.

The first persuasion strategy that Al Gore uses is using humorous and sardonic expression which gives us a deep impression and easy way to understanding. For instance, in order to explain global warming, he uses a humorous cartoon to make us understand global warming more easily. Meanwhile, he takes his classmate as an example to interpret some important principle. This sardonic way can make the principle not be boring and people can accept this way easily.

The second strategy that he uses is persuading people by using comparison. In his speech, he wants to tell people the importance of solving the global warming problem. Therefore, he needs to show the damage of global warming. In order to express the damage of global warming, he shows a lot of pictures of the same glacier, taking in different periods. According to the comparison, people can greatly feel the importance of solving this problem. If not, the whole planet will be submerged by the water from the large amount of glaciers. Eventually, the humans are the victims.

describe two (2) graphs, charts, tables

From the first graph, we can see that the share price of NTL generally keeps declining from the end of 2000 to the beginning of 2002. However, there is a sharp fluctuation at the beginning of 2001. The share price declined sharply at the end of the 2000. Suddenly, the company might carry out some regulation, the share price raised a lot. Unfortunately, this growth did not keep a long time. Eventually, the share price dropped to below 5$.

The trend of the second graph is much different from the first one. In the second graph, the trend changes more regularly. Since this graph shows the DC’s metro use, we can see that the curve changes over time. There are two crests, correspond with the morning rush hour and the evening rush hour respectively. During the two crests, the curve is relatively more stable.

So today, I would like to introduce a restaurant named QuanJuDe which is a famous brand of China and was established in 1864. With its long history, QuanJuDe roast duck obtains a high reputation among domestic and overseas consumers for the peculiar roast technique and outstanding quality. There are lots of famous people come here before, like Former US President George W. This place attracts a lot of famous people because the flavor is very good and the duck is critically choice, the service here is high-quality. That is why this restaurant can exist hundred years and still attract so many people. When you open the door in the old wall, with the aroma of roast duck, you can see a Chinese traditional architectural style antique in front of you. The wooden doors, wooden stairs and real wooden pillars, create a traditional restaurant atmosphere. The elaborate decorates bring you back to the period of old Beijing, to experience a strong feeling of history.

Comparing the 1950s and modern TV ads

With the development of the modern society, the TV advertisements play an important role in people's daily life. However, that is where the controversy arises. Some people believe that TV advertisements do not change a lot, because they are just used to convey the information to the customers and persuade them to buy the products. In contrast, those who disagree with this argument hold the view that the TV advertisements change a lot from the 1950s to current ones, due to the great changes in technology, culture and economy.

The main change in TV advertisements is due to the improvement of technology of TV set. In the past, people can only watch the black and while. Therefore, most of the advertisements do not look very colorful and the advertisers just add the classical elements in the ads. For example, the music’s used in the ads were usually some folk music and pure music, in order to accordance with the elements of the ads. On the contrary, the modern advertisements usually use some fast music to express the colorful elements. Meanwhile, the form of the advertisements also changes a lot. Previously, the advertisements are usually used to narrate the description of the products. However, due to the development of the technology, many special effects are added in the advertisements and the ads can be made in a more creative way. For example, in a car advertisement, the car can even compete with the airplane by using the special effect. This can give the customers a new impression of the product and stimulate them to purchase the car and experience the high speed.

Another change in TV advertisements that cannot be ignored is the customer the company wants to persuade. In the past, the products are usually bought by the local people. Currently, with the development of the economic, many products are exported to the other countries. Therefore, the advertisements have to cater the people with different culture. For example, due to the different culture of different countries, advertisers usually do some surveys to have a good understanding of the local culture where they want to sale their products and then they try their best to make the advertisement without any culture conflict. If not, the whole company would lose a lot of profits and fail to enter the local market. For example, McDonald usually asks some cute babies to act in their advertisements. This is a good way to avoid the culture conflict. Because everybody loves cute babies.

It is undeniable that the TV advertisements change a lot in nowadays. However, we still need to learn the classical ones. They can not only tell us how the advertisements develop during the several decades, but also they can give us some very creative ideas of making a successful advertisement. We cannot just focus on the technology of making advertisement. We should consider all aspects of factors and we can make a good advertisement to persuade the customers to purchase the products.

Description a place- Blog assignment (due by the end of the day on Friday, July 19)

Chengde Mountain Resort is a famous place in china. In Qing Dynasty, three emperors often spent several months a year here to escape the summer heat in the capital city of Beijing and the palace zone in the southern part of the resort was therefore designed to resemble the Forbidden City in Beijing. The most impressive place in Chengde Mountain Resort is the temple. The first time I saw that temple, it is really shocked me. The entire roof made by real golden with nine golden dragons on it. The combination of the Han and Tibetan styles of architecture is a major feature of the other Temples. The front parts of the temples are in Han style and the rear in Tibetan style. They are especially notable for the technological and artistic skills in the images that they house. In the summer the weather here is very cool and always attracts a lot of people, so don not let the opportunity passes by in your summer vocation.

Summary of Scott’s speech

In this speech, Scott mainly talked about how to use scientific theory to solve some problems in trail. At the beginning, the professor briefly introduced a wrongly convicted case in which a father of six teenagers was killed and a young boy was sentenced to prison without any evidence, except the eyewitness of the teenagers. The reason of wrong eyewitness is mainly caused by a principle in human memory research: the brain abhors a vacuum and it will reconstruct the memory. In order to clarify the theory, the professor took the horrific events 9/11 for example and concluded that reconstructed memories would cause the eyewitness fallibility.
As an expert in eyewitness memory identification and the nature of human night vision, the professor reconstructed the scene of the crime. Then he used the cameras to photograph the actual crime scene and found the lighting condition was very poor. The professor successfully persuaded the judge to see the crime scene and the judge could hardly see the details even the car was very close, due to the shadow cloud of the roof of the car and the poor lighting condition. Finally, the judge retrial the case and released the young man. Therefore, the professor said that we should keep cautious about our own memories. Because they were reconstructed and might cause wrong eyewitness.
